The Washington TSA State Conference has came to a close. Held on March 27-29, 2014 at the Bellevue Hilton and Red Lion Bellevue this was the largest conference in the history of the organization with 640 participants. The conference kicked off with comments from the Governor that were delivered by Marcie Maxwell, his Senior Policy Advisor on Education. Governor Inslee and Marcie Maxwell encouraged our members to continue to develop their STEM skills in preparation for careers in the various industries across Washington State. David Martschinske from Focus Designs delivered the Keynote Address in which he stressed the importance of creativity and entrepreneurship. On Friday at the annual WTSA Business Meeting, Erin Jones spoke to our members about working hard to be the person you want to be and not letting other tell you that you are not worthy.
Through out the conference students competed in 57 competitive events at the Middle and High School level. From Engineering to Robotics to Video Game Design to Leadership and much more these students delivered strong performances. With industries professionals acting a judges the students received valuable feed back as their explore and prepare for careers.
Students had the opportunity to explore their future at the annual WTSA Education Fair in which 18 post secondary programs were represented. From apprenticeships to community & technical college to four year universities these students had the opportunity to learn more about the variety of paths available to them after high school. TRI-Leadership provided a series of leadership training workshops that members took part in to further develop their leadership and employ ability skills. In addition to these activities, students were able to work with Microsoft professionals and learn about app development in a hands on workshop.
One of the highlights of the conference was the Election of the 2014-15 WTSA State Officer team. With a record 12 candidates to join this group of esteemed students, it was a hotly contested election that they can all be proud of. WTSA would like to congratulate the newly elected officers:
