Hundreds of students participated in Civic Engagement Day in Olympia on January 27, 2016. They had the opportunity to speak to their Senators and Representatives about the importance of CTE, CTSOs, and enhanced funding for Career and Technical Education programs in their schools.
Neither CTE funding bill came out of the House or Senate, but the students learned a lot about the process, and about how to present their own CTE stories, and talk about the impacts that CTE has had on their lives, and choices for the future.
WASHINGTON CTE Student Leadership
The Washington State Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs), Washington Association for Career and Technical Education, and OSPI Career & Technical Education Staff invite Career & Technical Education students and their teachers to attend the 3rd Annual CTE Student Leadership Civic Engagement Day at the State Capital. This unique opportunity allows student leaders from across the state of Washington to learn about state government and showcase CTE Programs while developing their leadership skills.
This is a great opportunity to demonstrate to the legislators the impact of CTE on our students and state. The event consists of a morning training followed by visits to their members of the state legislature. We also have a limited number of display areas available for the day in the Capitol Building for CTE Programs to showcase their work.
