Coding

Description

Participants respond to an annual coding-related design challenge by developing a software program that will accurately address an onsite problem in a specified, limited amount of time.

The following programming languages may be used to complete the assigned problems:

  • C (version C11)

  • C++ (version C++14)

  • C# (version 6.0)

  • Java (version 10)

  • Javascript (NodeJS version 8.10)

  • Python (version 3.6)

  • Ruby (version 2.5)

  • Swift (version 4.2)

Additional languages may become available as we near the conference.
Participants will be presented with a series of coding problems that must be completed on site at the conference. Evaluation will be based on the successful completion of the problems and the time in which it takes students or teams to complete all the challenges.

The USA Computing Olympiad website and the ACM-ICPC International website are helpful resources for the Coding event. Additional resources that can be used to prepare for the event are listed below:

Each student should take the test individually. Students will need their Competitor ID number from their advisor.

Advisors will receive student scores on Jan. 12.

March 2024

All team members will take a Coding test at the state conference on Wednesday night during the testing window.

All team members must bring a laptop for testing that can connect to wifi (which may require entering a password).

All teams may compete in the onsite challenge, but only the Top 12, based on combined test scores, will have their work judged.

Washington TSA Rules

To compete, students must belong to an affiliated TSA chapter, register for competition by December 15, 2023, and pay the $30 competition fee. Participants must also meet the January 11 event deadlines (see above) to “qualify” for the Washington TSA State Conference in March.

To compete at the WTSA State Conference, students must have been registered in December, met the Jan. 11 deadline, and then register in February for the State Conference ($420/$500 per student package price (4 or 2 students per room)).

This event is only for teams of 2. At the state level, 3 teams per chapter may compete.
