Dragster Design

Description

Participants design, produce a working drawing for, and build a CO2-powered dragster. Annual specifications can be found in the competitive event guide.

2026-27 Theme: INSIDE / OUT

One axle (front or rear) must use internal wheels, while the opposite axle must use external wheels.

Internal: The wheels must be enclosed by the vehicle body on the top and both sides above the axle. The bottom of the wheel remains exposed.

External: The wheels must be completely outside the vehicle body. No portion of the body may cover any part of the wheel from the top or sides.

The front and rear axles must use opposite configurations (one internal, one external).

One set of wheels(front or rear) must be external (outside 35mm) and the other set of wheels must be internal(shell). Participant choice on either Front or Rear.

Event Deadlines

 

January 21, 2027

Students will need their Participant ID number, and password, from their advisor.

Students submit technical drawing and materials list. Entries will be scored on Drawing Scale and Dimensioning, Drawing Completion and Quality, and Materials List

April 2027

Students will submit dragster, technical drawing and materials list on Wednesday evening.

Washington modifications:

Dragster will NOT have student interviews

1 time trial for semifinal bracket

 

Washington TSA Rules

To compete, students must:

  • Belong to a currently affiliated TSA chapter

  • Be registered (by their TSA advisor) for competition by December 18, 2026 ($35)

  • Compete in the January 21, 2027 virtual competition (see individual event pages for details)

  • Be selected as a top competitor in their event(s) and invited to participate at State

    • Number of competitors is dependent on specific event

    • Qualifying competitor lists will be published by February 7, 2027

    • State Conference registration week February 22-26, 2027 (see state conference page for details)

At the state level, 3 individuals per chapter may compete.
