Description
Participants create an original musical piece.
2026-27 Theme: Compose an original, dynamic soundtrack for a climactic boss battle in a futuristic or fantasy video game. Your music should portray the intensity of the encounter through creative composition, sound design, and production techniques. The track should build escalating tension, feature dramatic contrasts and powerful climaxes, and be suitable for seamless looping during continuous gameplay.

Event Deadlines
January 21, 2027
Students will need their Participant ID number, and password, from their advisor. Only the team captain will be able to upload the file.
Students will upload their musical file to any platform, and then submit a URL link to their musical piece.
Before creating/submitting your musical piece, ask yourself these questions:
Is this just an electronic sound that doesn’t go anywhere?
Does this piece fit the theme (see above)?
Are the judges going to listen all the way through, or turn it off after 15 seconds and submit their scores?

This is an early entry event!
Deadline is 5:00 pm, March 18.
Students will need their Participant ID number, and password. Only the team captain will be able to upload the file.
Students will submit final portfolio and link to music.
Judges will score musical piece to reach Top 24, and then judge portfolios to reach Top 12. Top 12 semifinalists will interview at State.
Washington TSA Rules
To compete, students must:
Belong to a currently affiliated TSA chapter
Be registered (by their TSA advisor) for competition by December 18, 2026 ($35)
Compete in the January 21, 2027 virtual competition (see individual event pages for details)
Be selected as a top competitor in their event(s) and invited to participate at State
Number of competitors is dependent on specific event
Qualifying competitor lists will be published by February 7, 2027
State Conference registration week February 22-26, 2027 (see state conference page for details)
At the state level, 3 individuals or teams per chapter may compete.
